Two-Player Pool: A Legal Pot Keeps Your Turn

Share one device, not one shot each. This page starts with American 8-ball: the break leaves groups open, and a later legal pot assigns solids and stripes. Once assigned, legally pocket your own ball to keep shooting. A miss ends your turn; a foul gives your opponent ball in hand. Let the balls stop, then check the current player and shot log. The game tracks the balls and rulings for you.

Follow the Turn, Not the Shot Count

After groups are assigned, a legal pot of your own ball keeps your turn. Pocketing only an opponent's ball does not. A ball made on the break does not assign groups. In 9-ball and 10-ball, hit the lowest number first and keep shooting after a legal pot. Wait for every ball to stop, then check whose turn it is.

Miss: Turn Over. Foul: Ball in Hand.

A scratch, no object-ball contact, or the wrong first contact is a foul. Outside the break, if nothing is pocketed, a ball must reach a rail after legal contact. Ordinary fouls give ball in hand anywhere on the table. Only a Chinese 8-ball break foul restricts placement behind the head string. Place the cue ball before aiming.

Leave an Angle on the 8

Find the problem balls and a route to the 8 before clearing every easy ball. Keep an easy ball to link awkward positions. Plan your last group ball to leave shape on the 8; Chinese 8-ball requires a separate final shot, while this site's American game permits a legal same-shot finish. Swap player identities to alternate breaks between racks and keep your own match score.

Local Two-Player FAQ

Do we need a download, account, or room code?

No. Open this page and share one phone, tablet, or computer. Loading the page needs a network connection, but local play does not connect to a room server. To play on separate devices, use Play Online and invite your friend to a room instead.

How do we switch to Chinese 8-ball, 9-ball, or 10-ball?

Choose a ruleset in the Rules selector. Changing it clears the current rack and shot log, with Player 1 breaking again. In 8-ball, clear your group before finishing on the 8. In 9-ball and 10-ball, hit the lowest number first, then legally pocket the 9 or 10 to win. This site's 10-ball does not require called shots; see the rules page for its rulings.

Why was it a foul when I hit my own ball?

Legal first contact is only part of the shot. Outside the break, if no ball is pocketed, at least one ball must reach a rail after the cue ball hits a legal object ball. A soft touch that stops short of a rail is a foul. Scratching also fouls, even if you pocket your own ball. Check the shot log for the ruling.

What if the 8 drops early or with the cue ball?

Outside the break, pocketing the 8 before clearing your group loses the rack. Scratching while pocketing the 8 also loses. Chinese 8-ball does not allow your last group ball and the 8 to drop on the same shot. This site's American 8-ball allows that finish with legal first contact on your group and no foul. The 8 is respotted if made on the break, not counted as a win.

Can we undo a shot? Does Center ball undo it?

This page currently has no Undo control. Center ball only moves the strike point back to the middle of the cue ball; it does not move any balls or cancel a shot. New game reracks and clears the shot log. It cannot restore the previous shot.

Can we resume after closing the page?

The game tries to save the local rack in this browser. Reopen this page on the same device and browser to restore it. Clearing site data, browsing without persistent storage, or changing devices can lose the rack. The save is not a match-score tracker; record your own score across racks.
